Golden Globe Awards 2011
The Golden Globe Awards are usually considered the test run for what is to come at the Oscars.
The 2011 Golden Globe awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday the 16th of January with the usual pomp and splendour, attended by Hollywood glitterati and the powers to be. Hosted by the HFPA ( the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) the ceremony was once again hosted by the acerbic and often wincingly astringent comedian Ricky Gervais who hosted last years ceremony as well.

The Ceremony
Ricky Gervais started with a close to the bone joke on Charlie Sheen's recent antics and quipped, 'Well that was just on a Monday, I wonder what he did on New Year's Eve!' The gathered crowd laughed nervously and there were a few jeers, perhaps they were wondering who he was going to pick on next. True to form, he managed to pick on Jolie and Depp ( There was a lot of 3D this year, except the performances in the Tourist), Downey Jr ( Many of you will know him from the Betty Ford clinic..!), Bruce Willis ( called him Ashton Kutcher's dad!), Tim Allen and even managed to bite the hand that invited him, the president of the HFPA ( I just helped him off the toilet and put his teeth in..).
I will be surprised if he got invited again to host.. as the second time around perhaps the joke's were wearing thin.
The ladies all looked their beautiful selves ( with a little help from the designers, make up artists and in many cases , botox and their personal surgeon). Special mention to the gorgeous Scarlett Johannson, Halle Berry, Alicia Keyes, Natalie Portman, Milla Jovovich, Mila Kunis and even Jennifer Lopez for looking gorgeously elegant.
Jane Fonda defied the Gods of ageing ( with a little help from the scalpel) and looked amazing for 74. As did Annette Bening and Julianne Moore flying the flag for their generation.
For the Ladies, there is the always reliable Johnny Depp, the charming Robert Downey Jr. ( who cracked up the audience with his presenting spiel for the best actress category ( comedy or Musical), Matt Damon ( who was a strange choice for presenting Robert De Niro with his life-time achievement award), Brad Pitt and of course the teen-bait Robert Pattinson.

- How to use Role-Play in Teaching and Training
Role-play is a valuable teaching and training tool that delivers immense amount of imprinted learning. This learning is retained and recalled better through the role-play experience. While it is evolving as a very effective, interactive teaching and training tool, many feel unprepared and uncomfortable about participating, or using role-play in routine teaching and training. - 15 months ago
- Attitudes, Beliefs and Values
Attitudes have been described as an hypothetical construct that represents a person's like or dislike for anything. Attitude is a judgement made on the 'attitude object' ( a person, place, task, event, skill, etc.). These judgements can range from positive, negative or ambivalent. Attitudes arise from an inner framework of values and beliefs, developed over time. Jung, in his essay on Psychological types, defines attitude as " the readiness of the psyche to act or react in a certain way"1 - 17 months ago
- Top Tips for Women's Skin Care 2012
The human skin is not just ‘packaging’; it is also the largest organ of the body. It serves many functions. As our outer covering, it is the one that faces up to the daily challenges of heat and dust, sun and snow, wear and tear. The skin can give you youth or age you, for as it was once said, beauty is only skin deep. Looking after your skin pays dividends. - 8 weeks ago
- The Subtle Art of Haggling
The art of haggling is enjoying a resurgence. For too long it has been the mainstay of the exotic eastern markets, been confined to the dusty corridors of a local flea market or perhaps a garage sale, or in the higher echelons of buying a luxury car. Now everyone is waking up to the possibilities of a bargain, the sheer pleasure of getting the price knocked down so you could make a saving on your hard earned money, all through haggling. - 12 months ago
- Top Tips for Men's Fragrances
Some men don’t wear any fragrance apart from simple soap. Some douse themselves in deodorants and are happy with the end product. Some go for the popular high street brands, guided by Christmas campaigns and settling for whatever floats on the TV. Believe me, it is worth investing some time in figuring out what fragrance suits you most. A good men's fragrance is like a best friend, always by your side, standing up for your cause and putting in a good word for you with the girls! - 14 months ago
- Rosacea : Conditions, Causes, Cautions and Control
You look at yourself in the mirror. You have always had fair skin and flush easily. Of late there has been persistent redness in your cheeks, across the bridge of the nose and your forehead. You find it embarrassing. The skin feels dry and flaky sometimes. If you have a hot drink, spicy food or alcohol your face goes bright red like traffic lights especially in these areas. - 15 months ago

Missed the actual televised version so I thank your for covering the Globes! Cheers!
Thanks for your write up on the awards. I'm glad some of the movies I liked got their awards. Thanks.
Great recap! Loved the detail and the inclusion of all the film posters and video clips. I think all the uproar about Gervais is the best thing that could happen to HFPA and The Globes. I can't remember the last time everyone talked so much about them!

You did a excellent job of covering the Golden Globe Awards. I don't care for those initial jokes in poor taste. I like to see what the stars are wearing and of course they usually are gorgeous.
